September 1, 2020

A total of P64.55 million worth of mobility assets which will be used for administrative purposes, were acquired by the Philippine National Police (PNP).

In a turnover ceremony on Tuesday, PNP chief General Archie Francisco Gamboa personally witnessed the blessing of newly procured 50 units of light transport vehicles.

“These units will be issued to the deputy directors and executive officers of the directorates here in Camp Crame,” Gamboa told reporters.

Gamboa said this will be the first time that deputy directors and executive officers who are generals will have their own PNP issued vehicle.

“It is for them to use because they should have a staff car and then separate units also. Let’s give dignity to our directors especially the NPTI (National Police Training Institute) and PNPA (Philippine National Police Academy) who are actually new units of the PNP,” he said.

The director for comptrollership, Police Major General Marni Marcos, also the current chairman of the NHQ-Bids and Awards Committee, presented the new vehicles amounting to P64,555,000 sourced from the Capability Enhancement Program (CEP) 2020.

Marcos said the new mobility assets will be distributed to the Command Group, D-Staff, National Support Units, Office of the Secretary of Interior and Local Government, PNP Peace Process and Development Center, Philippine National Police Academy, and Philippine National Police Training Institute to boost its administrative capabilities.

Gamboa said these latest additional assets are part of the continuing effort of the PNP leadership and the national government to enhance the modernization program of the PNP.

Gambao said the PNP sustained programs in operations to keep the community safer by deploying more uniformed personnel to carry out focused police operations to include mobile and foot patrols.

“This is an indication that the thrust of the PNP is pushing for reforms through the integrated transformation program that are amplified through this kind of endeavor,” he said.

“With the PNP's renewed focus on patrolling and making police presence more felt in our communities especially in this time of pandemic these vehicles will certainly go a long way in strengthening police mobility in the cities across the country,” he added.

Gamboa said ensuring peace and order does not only depend on the number of police officers but also with the efficiency and effectiveness in delivering services. Ella Dionisio/DMS
