The Philippine National Police (PNP) assured Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle they will uphold human rights and rule of law in the conduct of the war on illegal drugs.
PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde conveyed this when he paid a courtesy visit to Tagle at the Archbishop's Palace in Manila.
The two met at around 3 p.m., according to PNP spokesman Senior Superintendent Benigno Durana who provided photos of the meeting.
Albayalde was accompanied by National Capital Region Police Office director Chief Superintendent Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar and the five police district directors of Metro Manila.
The Catholic Church has been critical of President Rodrigo Duterte's anti-drug campaign where at least 4,279 drug pushers and users have been killed in alleged gun battles with lawmen. DMS
