PNP chief commends Sinas for campaign to weed out unscrupulous cops

June 17, 2020

The chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday commended National Capital Region Police Office chief Major General Debold Sinas for his aggressive campaign in cleansing Metro Manila from unscrupulous cops.

“Our people need to trust the PNP if we want to sustain and eventually win this prolonged fight against criminality and COVID-19. Police Major General Sinas has been cleansing Metro Manila from unscrupulous police personnel and I commend the NCRPO for its aggressive campaign, especially against rogue cops who are involved in the use and trade of illegal drugs,” Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa said.

Gamboa made the statement after Sinas initiated a random drug test to Quezon City Police District personnel where they found that one police officer was positive for shabu.

Last June 6, a random drug test was conducted on 312 QCPD personnel with Patrolman Casey Austria of the DSOU ( District Special Operation Unit) tested positive.

Austria was disarmed of his issued firearms and will be reassigned to Regional Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit for appropriate administrative sanctions and reformative interventions.

Since the start of the year, Austria is the 10th personnel caught using illegal drugs through random drug tests.

Gamboa said the NCRPO is conducting regular random drug tests in its own ranks to determine  users.

“Pursuant to President Rodrigo Duterte’s directive, the PNP is relentless in its fight for a clean and drug-free Philippines. It starts right here, in our own backyard. Getting rid of rogue cops is key to gaining the trust of our people,” he said.

“The NCRPO’s initiative is an important step towards attaining that,” he added. Ella Dionisio/DMS
