PNP claims nine sugar workers belong to legal front of communists
October 23, 2018
The Philippine National Police (PNP) said the National Federation of Sugar Workers ( NFSW) where the slain nine sugar workers in Sagay City, Negros Occidental belong is a legal front of communist rebels.
PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde claimed the NFSW is being used by the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) to take over private properties.
He told reporters in a separate ambush interview in Camp Crame that investigation to the involvement of the CPP and its armed wing, the New People's Army.
“There is a big indication that this is the work of the CPP-NPA,” said Albayalde.
The victims, said Albayale, were recruited to the NFSW on Saturday, when they were later shot dead by armed men at Hacienda Nene in Barangay Bulanon.
Their illegal occupation of the property apparently made farmers who are legal claimants angry. "This is one of the reasons the legitimate tillers got angry," said Albayalde.
At least five to seven gunmen were involved in the shooting, police said. DMS
