PNP denies arresting Cebu journalist
July 5, 2020
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Sunday denied that members of the Special Action Force (SAF) arrested a local journalist from Cebu City last June 2.
PNP said the journalist Sheriza Mae Uy debunked a news report that she was “apprehended by the Special Action Force and detained for 15 minutes.”
In her personal Facebook page, Uy said she was stopped by SAF personnel but was not detained.
"I am posting this to correct this erroneous report by Rappler. It was true that I was stopped by a SAF trooper but I was not detained,” she said.
“It was actually a minor incident that was settled immediately. I hope this story will be rectified to avoid things from blowing out of proportion. I hope this clarification will put the issue to rest. I am aware of the challenges that our policemen are facing in this time of crisis,” she added.
The reporter apologized to the police officers for the incident. Ella Dionisio/DMS
