PNP denies ”favoritism” in major revamp

October 28, 2019

The officer-in-charge of the Philippine National Police on Monday denied there is ''favoritism'' in the recent major revamp in the organization.

“I don’t think there is favoritism. The indication there is almost half of the regional directors were replaced even my classmates were included,” Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa said in a press briefing.

Gamboa said there is no such thing as “bata” (favoritism) system in PNP.

“I don’t know what favoritism they were talking about… rest assured that favoritism system does not exist in PNP,” he said.

His statement came after being asked about a white paper circulating through online message accusing him of not reassigning two senior officials, said to be his classmates in the Philippine Military Academy, despite having administrative cases.

“If you want to pinpoint specifics, then please go ahead and I will explain if OIC Gamboa has favorites,” said Gamboa.

As the OIC of the PNP, Gamboa said the 190,000-strong police force are his men.

Last October 20, Gamboa conducted a massive reshuffle in key positions which affected almost 20 police officials.

Some senior police officers reportedly expressed disappointment but according to PNP spokesperson, Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac, the revamp is part of their “career development” and assured the public of their support to Gamboa.

“We are with Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa on the changes he want to implement on the Philippine National Police,” he said.  Ella Dionisio/DMS
