PNP dismissed nearly 300 cops for being drug users
January 26, 2018
Nearly 300 police officers were found to be drug users, with most dismissed from the service, the Philippine National Police's Internal Affairs Service (IAS) said Friday.
IAS Inspector General Alfegar Triambulo said 292 police officers were drug users since July 2016. Only three are still waiting resolution of their cases.
Superintendent Lito Cabamongan of the PNP Crime Laboratory is the highest ranking officer who was caught while in a drug session in Las Pinas City on March 2017.
Majority of those caught are non-commissioned officers, said Triambulo. Fifty were arrested in entrapment operations by the PNP Counter-Intelligence Task Force.
Some police officers were found to be drug dealers by recycling drugs which they seized from previous operations, Triambulo said.
Triambulo said a police officer who tested positive for illegal drugs will face the maximum administrative penalty of dismissal from the service. DMS
