The Philippine National Police on Sunday lauded the full support and cooperation of the public in ensuring the success of the opening ceremony of the 30th Southeast Asian Games.

In a statement, Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac said PNP’s officer-in-charge Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa also commended the Security Task Force for effectively implementing the opening day security plans, and having no significant untoward incidents reported.

The task force was led by PNP Deputy Chief for Operations Police Lieutenant General Camilo Pancratius Cascolan and Police Brigadier General Rey Lyndon Lawas.

“Tight PNP security remains in full force in cooperation with PHISGOC (Philippine Southeast Asian Games Organizing Committee) even as we continue to express our full support to all Filipino athletes,” Banac said.

The PNP urged the public to maintain excellent display of unity, discipline and order.

“The PNP remains alert and vigilant to prevent occurrence of crimes; implement security contingency plan in case typhoon Tisoy will affect the scheduled games; and assist local DRRMCs (Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council) to implement preventive evacuations should the need arises,” he said.

“Unity in diversity. We Win as One!” he added.

The opening ceremony of SEA Games was led by President Rodrigo Duterte on Saturday night with around 5,500 athletes and delegates present.

According to PNP, around 38,500 people attended the event which was held in Philippine Arena in Bulacan. Ella Dionisio/DMS
