PNP honors cops who died during COVID-19 crisis
June 12, 2020
As the country commemorates Independence Day, the chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday honored the cops who died during the country's ongoing COVID-19 crisis.
In a message, Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa said police officers showed their greatness as frontliners while ensuring the country remains safe. Five policemen have died from COVID-19, the PNP said.
“Now, we are not honoring not only our national heroes but also our members who became pillars of peace. Our police officers who sacrificed their lives not only during the war but also during the COVID-19 crisis. They are what we call modern heroes,” Gamboa said.
The PNP chief urged his men to not engage in any anomalies.
“We must continue our job in a clean, honorable and in a proud manner. Remove all anomalies because we are the main law enforcement of the government,” he said.
“The courage and bravery that we showed everyday in our service to the people which brought honor to our agency will never be replaced by any material things,” he added.
He hopes that the country will surpass the health crisis it is facing.
“In the spirit and name of national unity, let’s all raise the flag of the Philippines, while taking into heart the true essence of freedom,” Gamboa said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
