PNP-HPG working with agencies to meet Duterte five-minute Cubao-Makati goaL

June 24, 2019

The Philippine National Police- Highway Patrol Group  ( PNP-HPG) on Monday said transport agencies are preparing to solve traffic woes in Edsa to comply with President Rodrigo Duterte' promise of five-minute travel time from Cubao, Quezon City to Makati City.

"The five minutes (travel time) is the order of the president so as I said, we are regularly meeting with DOTr (Department of Transportation), Land Transportation and Franchise Regulatory Board), LTO (Land Transportation Office, and) MMDA (Metro Manila Development Authority) to comply with the orders of the president," Police Brigadier General Robert Fajardo, the PNP-HPG director, in a press briefing.

"Our preparation is ongoing," he added.

As per coordination with agencies, Fajardo said they will be strict on bus lanes and traffic laws.

"The terminals along the highway of EDSA will be removed, and they will not be allowed to use it. If you notice the motorcycle lane on fast lane, it will be move in the third lane," he said.

Asked if it will be safe for motorcycles to use a lane beside the bus lanes, Fajardo said it is more dangerous.

"So that the fast lane will be really fast and the motorcycles are not grabbing lanes with the speedy vehicles," he said.

"If that will be followed, I think we will be able to comply with what President Duterte said by December," he added.

On how they will do it, Fajardo told the media that it's "secret" for now and they will just announce when these changes will be implemented.

"The support of stakeholders... I think we will be able to commit the expectation for HPG to be the guardian of highways," he said.

He added that strictly following traffic rules will help in the development of the country. Ella Dionisio/DMS
