PNP lauds NCRPO weight reduction program

The Philippine National Police (PNP) lauded the initiative of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) to lead the weight loss program in line with Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa’s order to instill discipline in ranks and promote healthy lifestyle.

Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson, said there are around 3,000 overweight and obese cops in the NCRPO but the rest of the 24,000 personnel are compliant with Body Mass Index (BMI) requirements. 

“The PNP high command lauds the initiative of NCRPO chief Major General Debold Sinas to lead and even become the model of the weight loss program among NCRPO personnel pursuant to the BMI requirement under the physical fitness program launched by PNP chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa in an effort to instill discipline in ranks, promote healthy lifestyle, and improve the image of cops,” Banac said.

He said as of December 31, 2019, 54.4 percent or a total of 98,093 personnel nationwide reached their ideal body mass index.

“It is expected that by end of January 2020, the number of compliant personnel will further increase,” he added.

Banac assured the families of PNP personnel that all physical exercises and weight loss of police officers will be strictly monitored by PNP Health Service personnel.

On Tuesday, Sinas said he will launch a weight loss program by February for cops to reach their ideal BMI (Body Mass Index).

“All NCRPO personnel who are under obese 2 and 3 will report to headquarters in order to follow the guidance of the chief PNP that at least the appearance of the police is worthy,” he said.

Sinas said all cops joining the program will attend lectures and undergo exercise routines for two months.

Those who will fail to reach their target must attend a summer camp at the NCRPO headquarters in Taguig City where their performance will be monitored. Ella Dionisio/DMS
