PNP lowers alert status from full to heightened on Saturday

The Philippine National Police (PNP) is lowering its alert status from full to heightened on Saturday,.

Chief Superintendent Benigno Durana, PNP spokesman, said the full alert status will only be effect until 6 a.m..

“However, regional (police) directors were given the authority to maintain or downgrade their alert status depending on the peculirity of the security and safety situation of their respective OARs (operational area of responsibilities),”  Durana said on Friday.

National Capitol Region Police Director Guillermo Eleazar said downscaling alert status will allow half of the entire NCRPO personnel  deployed for “Undas” duties to rest before being readied for security duties during Christmas.

Heightened alert means 50 per cent of entire NCRPO personnel will still be on call.

The PNP said All Saints and All Souls days were generally peaceful.

The PNP Operation Center reported that nationwide, 23,637 policemen manning a total 4,672 police assistance hubs near major cemeteries with the support of 6,709  road marshals intercepted and seized three handguns and ammunition  in Central Luzon, NCR and in Western Visayas.

Also apprehended were three persons with illegal drugs in cemeteries. Two were arrested in Metro Manila while the other was apprehended  in Central Luzon.

Police near and inside cemeteries also confiscated a total of 11,039 bladed weapons and 1,949 bottles of alcoholic beverages  from scores of individuals who visited their dead.

Despite not allowing gambling during “Undas” authorities collared 197 violators.

The police also booked  72 others for turning their visit to cemeteries in Metro Manila, Southern Tagalog, Central Luzon, Western Visayas and  Davao region, into videoke singing. DMS
