PNP orders check if jailed drug lords continue activities

The chief of Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said he directed its Drug Enforcement Group to coordinate with other law enforcement agencies to check if convicted drug lords continue their illegal activities while serving their jail sentence.
Police General Camilo Cascolan said PDEG will coordinate with the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Bureau of Corrections (BuCor) to validate the information.
Cascolan said they got the information after arresting three suspects in Cebu City buy-bust where operatives confiscated P47.6 million worth of shabu.
“One of the arrested couriers revealed that the seized drugs which came from San Carlos City, Negros Oriental belonged to Rustico “Dikoy” Ygot, a drug lord now serving sentence at the National Penitentiary after he was convicted of drug charges in 2013,” he said.
Cascolan said they served a freeze order issued by the Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) on two properties of Ygot in Cebu early this year.
Last year, the Department of Justice (DOJ) ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to investigate the alleged illegal drug activities of Ygot inside the New Bilibid Prison. Ella Dionisio/DMS
