May 11, 2020
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday reminded all its personnel, including non-uniformed, to observe cyber etiquette when using social media platforms.
“In accordance to PNP policy on Social Networking Sites, all personnel must observe proper decorum in all public engagements including social media platforms, chatgroups and private sites,” said PNP chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa.
Gamboa encouraged PNP personnel to utilize the social media as a tool to establish pro-active information and awareness activities as well as build a harmonious relationship with the community.
"Social media is an excellent public information and collaboration internet tool as we are facing crisis today, operating within PNP regulations and established policies can mean a successful social media campaign, public relation and also police operations," he said.
Gamboa added comments and opinions of individual personnel, associations and sectoral groups on matters not related to the organization's activities are disowned by the PNP as unofficial and unauthorized.
The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) last May 7 also reminded its military and civilian personnel as well as their dependents to practice proper behavior when using social media. Ella Dionisio/DMS
