PNP proud of role in SEA Games

As the 30th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games formally ended Wednesday night, the Philippine National Police said they were proud of the role they performed during the biennial sports event.
In a statement, Police Lieutenant General Archie Francisco Gamboa said no major untoward incidents were noted during the entire duration of the games since November 30 aside for minor incidents such as the vehicular collision at NLEX during the opening ceremony.
“The Philippine National Police is proud of the role that we performed in the successful hosting of the 30th SEA Games by the Philippines," Gamboa said.
He said no other major incidents were reported to the PNP Command Center in Camp Crame that provided 24/7 real-time monitoring of the 30th SEA Games security-related activities, following the major events security template that has become part of PNP best practices in handling complex security operations.
“Just like in the other international events held in the country, citizen’s cooperation and support contributed immeasurably to the success of the 30th SEA Games,” he said.
The PNP OIC ordered the PNP security contingent for the 30th SEA Games to maintain police visibility and readiness to provide assistance to athletes, officials and guests, particularly in the movement of outbound delegates from the games and billeting venues to the airport.
“The mission ends only until after the last foreign delegate has left the country,” Gamboa said.
Police units in tourist destinations in Luzon and Visayas have been alerted to provide security to members of SEA Games delegations who are expected to extend their stay in the country.
This developed as the PNP reminded gun owners that the suspension of gun carrying privileges by virtue of Permits to Carry Firearms Outside of Residence (PTCFOR), remain suspended until Saturday, December 14, in Central Luzon, CALABARZON (Cavite-Laguna-Batangas- Rizal- Quezon), Metro Manila, and the Province of La Union.
The 30th SEA Games officially closed with a grand ceremony at the New Clark City in Capas, Tarlac with the Philippines being announced as the overall champion with 149 gold medals. Ella Dionisio/DMS
