Philippine National Police (PNP) chief General Debold Sinas on Friday said the chief of Binangonan police station was relieved from post after six of his men were allegedly involved in extortion.
Sinas said Calabarzon police regional director Brig. Gen Felipe Natividad ordered the relief of Lt. Col Joseph Arguelles.
“(He) was relieved pending investigation for negligence because it happened in the police station,” he said.
Replacing Arguelles as the officer-in-charge is Major Amadeo Estrella III.
He added the cops who are allegedly involved in illegal activities were reassigned to the Region Personnel Holding and Accounting Unit (RPHAU).
On January 19, operatives from the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) arrested two civilian police assets for extorting money from a certain Stephen Kellu in exchange for the release of an impounded motor vehicle.
The complainant said six other members of the Binangonan police station are involved in the alleged extortion.
Also included in the investigation is the police officer who was supposed to be in jail but serving as lookout during the payoff. Ella Dionisio/DMS
