PNP says illegal drug operations not a norm
August 17, 2020
The chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said conducting illegal drug operations is not a norm in the agency.
“It is not a norm (and) this has been already looked into. As a matter of fact I caused the restrictive custody of the men (involved),” Police General Archie Gamboa said in a virtual press briefing.
Gamboa made the statement after the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) filed kidnapping with murder charges against 11 personnel of San Jose Del Monte City police station.
Last week, Gamboa ordered the administrative relief and restrictive custody of the cops involved.
He said the policemen are now at the Central Luzon police headquarters.
“I told the regional director to impose the restrictions of this custody so that these men if charged in court would face their accusers,” Gamboa said.
According to the NBI, the police officers were involved in allegedly detaining six men and killing two of them in an illegal buy-bust operation.
NBI investigations showed that on February 13, the cops took the victims without legal basis and brought them to the police station where they were reportedly blindfolded and hogtied inside the intelligence office instead of undergoing booking procedures. Ella Dionisio/DMS
