PNP says no ”red tagging” in their official FB accounts
October 1, 2020
The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday said there is no such thing as “red tagging” in their official Facebook accounts.
Police Col. Ysmael Yu, the PNP spokesman, made the statement after he was asked in a radio interview about the list of accounts allegedly linked to the PNP which they requested from the Facebook management.
Yu said all their Facebook accounts, the Philippine National Police page and PNP- Directorate for Police Community Relations page, are active.
According to Facebook, they removed around 57 accounts, 31 pages, and 20 Instagram accounts linked to police and military for inauthentic behavior.
Some critics said this is in relation to posts of some PNP-affiliated accounts which allegedly red tags militant groups and members.
“That remains to be seen but as far as the Philippine National Police is concern, there is no such thing as that ("red tagging"),” Yu said.
He said the list they are requesting from Facebook is for the PNP to validate if the accounts were really linked to the police organization.
“We are asking them what are these accounts so that we will also investigate and confirm the veracity of this information pertaining to the internal detection and internal identification,” Yu said.
“We have nothing against it because that is an internal activity of FB. We cannot meddle,” Yu added.
On Wednesday, Yu said the Anti-Cybercrime Group (ACG) and the Information Technology Management Service (ITMS) have coordinated with Facebook for the list of fake accounts they deactivated. The two PNP units are still waiting for the social media company’s feedback. Ella Dionisio/DMS
