PNP says ROTC return will help those who want to join police or military

The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Tuesday said implementing the mandatory Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (ROTC) will be a big help for those who want to join the police and military.
Police Colonel Bernard Banac, the PNP spokesperson, said they support the bill that passed the third and final reading at the House of Representatives.
“We are ready to support the bill which will return ROTC to senior high schools,” Banac said.
“This will prepare our youth who wants to join the Philippine National Police and Armed Forces of the Philippines. It will also prepare us in any threat,” he said.
With ROTC, Banac said there will be reserve officers that can help them not only for security purposes but also in responding to disasters, calamities and emergencies.
Banac assured the critics of the mandatory ROTC program that previous incidents of abuse are only “isolated cases”.
“This can be prevented and be orderly by properly implementing (the program) and we are mostly looking on the overall readiness of our youth to serve in the uniformed service and to respond to any crisis, emergencies and calamities,” said Banac. Ella Dionisio/DMS
