PNP says they have enough cops at quarantine control points

August 4, 2020

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief Gen. Archie Gamboa assures the public that they have enough policemen to assist at the quarantine control points as the Metro Manila and other provinces in Luzon were placed again under modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ) starting Tuesday.

“We assure the public that there’s enough police personnel that are available to assist the public in quarantine control points in coordination with the local government units and barangay council as means to contain the spread of Covid – 19,” Gamboa said in a briefing at Camp Crame.

“Under MECQ protocols, only one person per household will be the authorized person outside residence bearing a quarantine passed issued by barangay in going out to avail basic needs for their families,” he added.

Gamboa said the PNP will prioritize deployment of forces to man the quarantine control points. But he said police may be deployed in barangay if needed.

“The primary consideration of the PNP is the quarantine control points located in the highway,” he said.

“Now in barangay, it will really to the barangay if they need the presence of policemen but they are highly encouraged to use their own because of course our main priority is to use a lot of policemen at the QCPs,'' he said.

Gamboa also asked the people to help the government in its fight against the pandemic.

“Again we urge the public to stay at home. This will be your help for our front liners who were doing their job to avoid the spread of the virus for almost five months,'' said Gamboa. Robina Asido/DMS
