PNP says total crime volume from January to June down 17.4%
October 22, 2018
The Philippine National Police (PNP) said Monday total crime volume nationwide from January to June declined by 17.39 percent.
In a press briefing, PNP Director General Oscar Albayalde said they recorded a total of 227,757 crimes during the period, which is lower compared to 275,702 cases during the same period last year, or a decrease of 47,945 incidents.
“The significant 17.39 percent drop in crime incidents during the January-June period, and onward until the end of September, is expected to become the trend for the remaining months of the year when petty crimes are traditionally believed to peak in the holiday season,” he said.
Albayalde said the lower number is due to a dip in index and non-index crimes by 33.05 percent and 13.20 percent.
The PNP said among index crimes are murder, homicide, physical injury and rape while non-index crimes are violation of ordinances and special laws.
Albayalde said the eight index crimes have gone down.
These are murder, down by 29.54 percent, homicide by 9.47 percent, physical injury by 33.80 percent, rape by 24.82 percent, robbery by 34.40 percent, theft by 36.90 percent, carnapping of four-wheeled vehicles by 36.30 percent and stealing motorcycles by 26.61 percent. DMS
