The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Tuesday expressed support with the call of Senator Panfilo Lacson for the Bureau of Immigration to conduct an investigation and possible deportation proceedings against the foreigner who tangled with police in Dasmarinas Village, Makati.

In a statement, Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac, PNP spokesperson said despite the incident they will continue to enforce the law and local ordinances being implemented under the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

“Despite that incident of verbal and direct assault on a police officer, the PNP will continue to enforce laws and local ordinances that govern strict implementation of ECQ and GCQ in all jurisdictions including gated communities when so requested by barangay and village authorities,” Banac said.

Spaniard Javier Salvador will face charges for Direct Assault, Violation of Article 151 of the Revised Penal Code for Disobedience, violation of RA 11332 (Bayanihan Act), Unjust Vexation, and vioIation of Makati City Ordinance 2000-089 for not wearing a face mask outside the house, said Banac.

Banac said the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) will proceed with its investigation  to determine if proper procedures were observed by the Makati City police who were called by barangay officials to enforce ECQ rules in Dasmariñas Village.

“The current efforts of the Philippine government to protect the lives of its citizens by containing the spread of the COVID-19 through the ECQ are in accordance with basic human rights principles,” he added. Ella Dionisio/DMS
