PNP tightens screening for security guards
July 3, 2020
Following the incident in Parañaque City involving security guards allegedly linked to a terrorist group, the Philippine National Police- Supervisory Office on Security and Investigation Agencies (PNP-SOSIA) on Friday said they will be stricter in their screening and application procedures.
Police Col. Sidney Villaflor, SOSIA director, said three suspects involved in the incident were licensed security guards.
He said the licenses of the three security guards were approved two years ago and expires next year.
“We will further intensify the requirements they need to submit like clearance from the Directorate for Intelligence, clearance from the national police, clearance from NBI… we will be stricter,” Villaflor said.
Last June 26, two security guards were among four killed in an encounter with the policemen when they were serving warrant of arrest against an alleged member of Dahwlah Islamiya.
Police Lt. General Guillermo Eleazar, PNP deputy chief for operations, said they are checking how the suspects became security guards.
He added this is a challenge for SOSIA , especially on how they can prevent this from happening.
“This is a challenge for the SOSIA to prevent this… just the same, these security guards must be screened and in doing that, we need to conduct regular inspections and process the requirements well while applying for security guards,” he added. Ella Dionisio/DMS
