PNP to assist DepEd in distributing learning materials to public schools

October 5, 2020

The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said they are ready to assist and help the Department of Education (DepEd) on distributing learning materials and modules in public schools.

“Although not all of the over 30 million learners in different levels will go back to school this year due to health safety issues, still, the PNP remains supportive to DepEd in providing manpower support in public schools during the distribution phase of learning materials and modules as part of the education department's Basic Learning Continuity Plan for this year amid the prevailing national health emergency,” Police General Camilo Cascolan, the PNP chief, said during his press briefing at Camp Crame.

Cascolan said they will be on hand to provide security and reassuring presence to address perennial law enforcement and public safety concerns in campuses and school zones, particularly in university belt areas of urban centers.

The PNP chief also said they will coordinate with barangay officials so they will release ordinances on videoke machines that may distract students who are  having online classes.

“We will be asking the barangay officials to have a resolution with regard to the use of this noisy (videoke machine),” Cascolan said.

“Barangay ordinances will be in place and basically we will be coordinating with them,” he added.

Cascolan said they are on the verge of coming up with a lot of barangay assistance centers as part of their law enforcement in each barangays.

DepEd formally opened  classes through blended learning on Monday after President Rodrigo Duterte discouraged face-to-face classes while there is no vaccine for the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

According to Education Secretary Leonor Briones, a total of 24, 753, 906 students enrolled for this school year. Ella Dionisio/DMS
