PNP to continue monitoring cops removed from drugs watchlist
September 7, 2020
The chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said they will continue to monitor cops who were removed from the National Watchlist on Illegal Drugs (NWID).
In a press briefing, General Camilo Cascolan said of the 357 cops included in the NWID that they adjudicated, 122 were removed while six were delisted because they were dead.
“Adjudication is continuing. It will be evaluated periodically and we will do that to those who were not cleared but even to those who have been cleared earlier," Cascolan said.
“You know we have formed a monitoring team, it's called the monitoring and evaluation team (MET)… We want to be just and fair to everybody, even though we already adjudicated you, we will continue to adjudicate and evaluate you,” he said.
Cascolan said those who were able to go back to work were not informed whether they were already cleared or not on their alleged illegal drug involvement.
“Nobody knows we just told them they could go back, everybody could go back, they could go to their areas of residences. They were even given some choices where they want to go because we would like to be fair and that was the recommendation to the then former chief PNP (Archie Gamboa),” he said.
Cascolan said not only those who are in the list but the whole organization is being monitored.
“We will still build up cases to those who have been retained,” Cascolan said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
