PNP to continue raiding illegal hospitals for COVID-19 treatment
May 29, 2020
The chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Friday warned those who are establishing illegal hospitals and clinics for coronavirus disease (COVDI-19) treatment that they will continue to raid them if they won’t accredit their establishments with the Department of Health (DOH).
“Let’s not forget that even if you have good intention, you still have to undergo regulatory functions of the government,” Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa said in his virtual presser.
“Those who want to establish (clinic or hospital), go to DOH so that we don’t have to raid (your establishment),” he said.
Gamboa said they only conduct operation against illegal clinics and hospitals based on the information they received in coordination with DOH.
Gamboa said DOH is the one which accredits hospitals so they can operate.
“Maybe it’s hard to apply for an accreditation because you need a lot of things (but) you have to comply before you get accredited,” Gamboa said.
“We will continue to operate against illegal hospitals and clinic,” he said.
Authorities have raided four illegal clinics run by Chinese suspects in the last one month.
First was in Paranaque City last April followed by a seven-bed hospital in Mabalacat, Pampanga. Two police raids were conducted this week in Makati City and in Angeles City, Pampanga. Ella Dionisio/DMS
