PNP to deploy more cops at LRT stations

The Philippine National Police (PNP) signed a partnership with the Light Rail Transit Authority (LRTA) for crime prevention and solution to ensure safety of the general public on Tuesday.

Philippine National Police  Director General Ronald Dela Rosa said in his speech during the signing of the memorandum of agreement: "The LRTA and the PNP shared the vision to a safer and more progressive Philippines and will continue to work close to achieve our common goal of ensuring safety and security in our communities".

"The project aims to institutionalize an accessible, quality and responsive assistance to our passengers, personnel and facilities to protect them", he said.

Under the memorandum of agreement signed between the PNP and LRTA, there will be PNP Women's Desk at LRT-2 stations in Santolan, Cubao and Recto.

The PNP will cooperate with the LRTA to conduct a quarterly emergency drills to prepare LRT-2 employees, security personnel and passengers during emergency situations, it said.

It said  police officers  should be present at the LRT stations during operating hours. All police officers in complete uniform and ID can ride LRT-2 for free, it added.

The PNP is allowed to post or air information material on crime prevention, safety and security awareness on criminal activities, modus operandi inside the LRT-2 trains and stations, it said.

"The police visibility and the provision of women's desk at Santolan, Cubao and Recto ar effective efforts to prevent sexual advances inside that stations and trains especially that most of our patronage riders are students", LRTA Administrator Reynaldo Berroya said in a press statement.

Police personnel will be deployed "immediately after the MOA signing" "depending on the availability of the police personnel that covered area like Pasig, Quezon City San Juan and Manila", LRTA public relations division manager Lyn Janeo said in a text message with the Daily Manila Shimbun.
