PNP to ”exhaust legal remedies” after court grants former Daraga mayor granted bail
September 2, 2019
The Philippine National Police said they will exhaust all legal remedies after the Legazpi City Regional Trial Court (RTC) granted former Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo to post bail over his attempted murder charges.
“First, we will confer (with) the Office of the Solicitor General. We will be asking their assistance on what we can do although we cannot do anything about it because it's a court order but we have an officer especially from Criminal Investigation and Detection Group that can coordinate with OSG,” Police General Oscar Albayalde said in a press briefing on Monday.
Albayalde said they are not disappointed as they respect the decision of Legazpi City RTC Branch 10 allowing Baldo to post P4 million bail for each count of murder charged to him.
“I think that's part of our duties and mandate. Whatever the appreciation of the court, we will always respect that,” he said.
“If they think that our evidence is not strong- then we will respect the decision of the court but then we still have other legal remedies. We will exhaust all legal remedies here,” he added.
The former Daraga mayor was granted bail last Friday for being the alleged mastermind on the killing of Ako Bicol Partylist Representative Rodel Batocabe and his police escort last December 2018.
Batocabe was also running for the 2019 local elections when he was killed during a gift-giving event in Daraga. Ella Dionisio/DMS
