PNP to manage operations of PICC quarantine facility

The Philippine National Police- Health Service (PNP-HS) on Tuesday  deployed medical and non-medical personnel that will manage the operations of the 294-bed quarantine facility at the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

According to PNP chief Police General Archie Francisco Gamboa, sixteen police medical officers and healthcare personnel together with 128 non-medical personnel will manage the operation with weekly shifts.

Gamboa said 42 personnel will take turns manning the quarantine hub alternately in between two weeks of quarantine.

“The PNP, with our corps of medical and healthcare personnel, is honored to take on this crucial responsibility in our national efforts to stand our ground against COVID-19 and heal the land of this contagion,” he said.

“This health facility at PICC will provide supportive care to anyone who will be admitted under close supervision of the PNP Health Service and DOH,” said Gamboa.

The makeshift quarantine facility at the PICC Forum Tent was designed by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) as treatment center for patients with mild to moderate COVID-19 cases.

"Aside from the PICC, the World Trade Center and the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex were also designated as quarantine facilities since March 31, we already detailed personnel in these facilities a well,” said Gamboa.

Gamboa assured that biosafety protocols, such as decontamination and provision of minimum Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for all PNP health workers and non-health workers in the quarantine hub will be implemented. Ella Dionisio/DMS
