December 9, 2019
The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Monday said they will continue to go after communist rebels while there is no formal announcement on reviving peace talks between the government and the Communist Party of the Philippines- New People’s Army- National Democratic Front of the Philippines (CPP-NPA-NDFP).
Police Brigadier General Bernard Banac said in a press briefing the PNP supports the government's move to revive peace talks.
“Yes, we support the possible resumption of peace talks but until it’s not yet officially declared, we will continue to serve warrants of arrest against (CPP-NPA) personalities with standing warrant of arrest,” the PNOP said.
He said even its founder, Jose Maria Sison. has a standing warrant of arrest.
“It will remain valid until the court orders its suspension,” said Banac.
Banac said serving of warrant of arrest against wanted personalities is part of the PNP’s mandate.
He said they will remain on alert, especially as the CPP will be celebrating its founding anniversary on December 26. Ella Dionisio/DMS
