PNP to stay alert during Reds’ unilateral holiday ceasefire

December 8, 2018

The Philippine National Police on Saturday vowed to remain on alert and continue with its regular law enforcement and internal security operations during the communist rebels' unilateral ceasefire later this month.

“With a 50-year old deceptively obsolete ideology and a trail of bloody history behind them, the ruthless reputation of the CPP/NPA/NDF (Communist Party of the Philippines/New People's Army/National Democratic Front) precedes their every move and attempt to fool us some more that they just cannot be trusted ever,” Chief Superintendent Benigno Durana Jr., PNP spokesperson, said in a statement.

He said the insincerity of the rebels is simply too glaring and so obvious to ignore.

Durana said they will not fall on the rebels’ antics as they will only use this truce to harass and terrorize the communities; to recruit and kidnap children; and to reconsolidate their crippled ranks.

“They cannot appeal to people's emotions and festive mood with their guns tucked behind their backs,” he added.
