PNP to transfer control of IMEG to Internal Affairs Service
November 4, 2020
The chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said they are eyeing on transferring the operational control of the Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG) to the Internal Affairs Service (IAS).
In a press briefing, Police General Camilo Cascolan said he is eyeing the restructuring of the lead operating unit in implementing its own anti-corruption and internal cleansing program.
Cascolan said studies are underway leading to this direction when the IAS shall be reorganized as a completely autonomous agency with IMEG providing the muscle as its main operating arm.
“We are studying that IMEG will be under operation control by IAS… Because we are leading IAS already to a civilian entity and hopefully soon it will be separate from the PNP so that there will be no problem,” he said.
Cascolan said this move is in support to the anti-corruption campaign of the Duterte administration.
According to Cascolan, a total of 16, 216 errant PNP personnel were penalized during the period from July 2016 until October 2020, that includes 4,681 personnel dismissed from the service, 870 demoted and 851 suspended.
He added a total of 518 PNP personnel, including 14 police commissioned officers, who were involved or tested positive for use of illegal drugs are being subjected for validation and processing for separation from the service without prejudice to the filing of administrative and criminal cases against them.
