PNP verifying if NBI agents were involved in kidnap of South Koreans; Dela Rosa

Philippine National Police (PNP) Director Gen. Ronald Dela Rosa said they are verifying the identity of alleged National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) agents involved in the abduction of four South Korean nationals in Pampanga.

“Ongoing (verification of three alleged NBI members). We are requesting them to show the faces of NBI agents in Angeles (City, Pampanga) so that the suspect will able to point out who are there accomplices, we are requesting,” Dela Rosa told reporters in Camp Aguinaldo Wednesday.

Despite the recent announcement of NBI about possibly filing charges against the PNP for issuing a statement on the alleged involvement of their agents in the abduction of the Korean nationals in Pampanga last November 24, Dela Rosa said heir information is based on investigation by the Anti-Kidnapping Group (AKG) of the PNP.

“Well, that’s up to them. What I said is based on our investigation. It shows that allegedly there were three NBI and two Bureau of Immigration ( agents) so that is what the investigation shows,” he said.

“I don't want to cover up on anything. That is what the investigation shows and we never made up that story. What I said is that there were three alleged NBI. Why I should not say that, if that is what our investigation shows?” Dela Rosa added.

On Monday, the PNP announced the successful rescue operation for a Korean businessman identified as Lee Jung Dae, 42 and arrest of five abductors, including four South Korean nationals and a Filipino in Manila last Saturday.

According to the PNP, based on the statement of the suspects, the abduction was allegedly made by three NBI agents and two Bureau of Immigration personnel.

Aside from Lee who was abducted inside his residence in Barangay Balibago, Angeles City, three of his South Korean employees were also kidnapped earlier in the same day. They were later freed after Lee’s girlfriend have paid 1.2 million pesos ransom money for their release. Robina Asido/DMS
