PNP welcomes Senate bill allowing officers to issue subpoena

Philippine National Police (PNP) Director General Ronald Dela Rosa welcomes the Senate’s approval on a bill that allows police officials to issue subpoenas to cases under investigation.
“That is a good development. We will be more equipped at we will be more relevant that we will not be ignore by suspects that we want to investigate, through investigation, that's good, a welcome development,” Dela Rosa said.
Senate Bill 1239, which allows the PNP chief, the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) director, and the CIDG deputy director to issue subpoena, was approved last Monday.
Dela Rosa said the bill “will expedite our investigation process, especially when the investigation involves other government agencies that would require adherence to some red tape procedures.”
Dela Rosa added they are also pushing to amend a PNP regulation to allows them jail their cops even without a warrant of arrest.
“Another one that we are working is to hopefully change the law in PNP wherein we have the power the same with the AFP (Armed Forces of the Philippines) where when their soldier who committed a grave offense can be detained even without a warrant of arrest,” he said.
