Poe “humbled and grateful” for topping September Pulse Asia senatorial survey

September 22, 2018

Senator Grace Poe aired her gratitude for being on top of pre-election surveys for the May 2019 elections.

Poe said women have emerged among leading candidates for the Senate based on the September survey by Pulse Asia which was released Saturday.

“We are humbled and grateful for the continued support of our people. It is uplifting that women are being recognized as effective, decisive and compassionate leaders,” Poe said.

In the top 10 of the survey were Senators Cynthia Villar, and Nancy Binay, Taguig City Rep. Pia Cayetano, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte and Ilocos Norte Governor Imee Marcos.

The eldest daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte said she is not interested to seek higher office in the 2019 polls. But Senator Aquilino Pimentel III said if Duterte decides to run for the Senate, she could challenge Poe for the number one slot.

Poe said it is more important to focus on  matters that concern every Filipino such as inflation, employment, fuel prices, and the damage caused by Typhoon Ompong.

“Let us focus on clear and present challenges,” she said.

Senator Sonny Angara, the only male in the top five of the survey, said the trust by the electorate would inspire him to work even harder.

Former Senator Jinggoy Estrada said he was encouraged in his bid to push with his bid to return to the Senate.

Senator Aquilino Pimentel III said he expects rankings to change once candidates file their certificates of candidacy in October.

The survey saw just a few of the members of PDP Laban, of which Pimentel is president, making it to the top 12.

Pimentel said these surveys are speculative since voters do not know who would run for senator.

Senator Paolo Benigno Aquino IV  is out of the top 13 position as the presence of his cousin Kris Aquino  divided voters' preference.

Aquino said the survey showed one Aquino should run for the Senate next year so he would discuss this with her and the political opposition. DMS
