July 1, 2020
Police arrested a security guard after he held a doctor hostage inside East Avenue Medical Center (EAMC) in Quezon City early Wednesday morning.
Brig. General Ronnie Montejo, Quezon City police director, said suspect Hilarion Achondo, 51, went to the hospital for treatment after he was injured from a motorcycle accident.
“However, around 5:50 am, the suspect suddenly took a syringe and pointed to the neck of an emergency doctor and held him hostage,” Montejo said.
He said the commotion created panic that caught the attention of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Unit (CIDU) policemen who were at the hospital investigating a stabbing incident.
“They responded immediately and pacified the suspect who did not make any demand from the policemen,” he added.
After several minutes of dialogue, the suspect released his hostage and threw the syringe.
The suspect was arrested and was brought to the CIDU in Camp Karingal.
"We are still investigating what was his motive,” Montejo said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
