Police arrested seven alleged sellers of overpriced medical supplies in Tondo last Monday, the National Capitol Region Police Office ( NCRPO) said.
NCRPO said operatives from Manila Police District (MPD) conducted an operation around 3:30 pm in Raxabago Street corner Juan Luna, Barangay 151 in Tondo after they received a report from the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) about overpriced isoprophyl alcohol being sold in the area.
The operation resulted in the arrest of five suspects.
“After the successful arrest of the suspects, during the conduct of interrogation, a certain Mary Jane Aliga called up and offered 200 gallons of rubbing alcohol available in her possession for the price of P600 per gallon,” NCRPO chief Police Major General Debold Sinas said in a statement.
This prompted authorities to conduct a follow - up operation which resulted in the arrest of suspect Aliga and her cohort.
Confiscated were four boxes of plastic bottle alcohol, 150 gallons of alcohol, and one vehicle used on transferring the said items.
"We will invigorate our effort to arrest these hoarders and profiteers who take undue advantage of our people amid this pandemic,” Sinas said.
The NCRPO chief said cases for violation of Bayanihan to Heal as One Act will be filed against the suspects.
According to Joint Task Force Covid Shield, from March 17 to 31, they were able to arrest 604 persons involved in hoarding and selling overpriced medical supplies. Ella Dionisio/DMS
