Police officer allegedly protecting illegal cockpit arrested

A police officer who allegedly was the protector of an illegal cockpit was arrested while two other officers escaped  from the Philippine National Police's Counter-Intelligence Task Force (CITF) raid in Brgy. Old Capitol Site on Sunday Senior Superintendent Jose Chiquito Malayo, chief of CITF, said SPO1 Jefer Butawan of Quezon City Police District Station Nine was arrested around 11:30 am. with three civilians during the raid. Senior Superintendent Guillermo Eleazar, the Quezon City police director, relieved Butawan from his post, Malayo said. "There are barangay officials involved and they were caught in the video so that's why we conducted ( the raid). This illegal operation is a collision between those barangay officials and policemen in the area", Malayo said. He said PNP is pursuing the two identified police officers involved. Malayo said a total of 1,123 complaints out of the 6,710 messages sent to the CITF involved police officers. "For the moment, we have a total of 1,069 personnel under monitoring for validation and eventual arrest if there would be an evidence. that's only six percent of the whole PNP", he said. Malayo said as of last week there are 210 drug related concerns , 198 cases involved policemen as protector and 191 cases of extortion. "Weekly there is a statistics that we are looking at and involvement on drugs is still number one,... as protector and extortion in that order", he said. At least 32 policemen were arrested and PNP has filed charges against three officers, one superintendent, one senior inspector and one chief inspector, Malayo said. (Alanna Ambi/DMS)
