Police releases suspect in priest’s killing in Nueva Ecija
June 29, 2018
Police released a suspect in the murder of Catholic priest Richmond Nilo in Zaragoza Friday morning after the Nueva Ecjia Regional Trial Court granted him a release order.
Senior Superintendent Benigno Durana Jr., spokesman of the Philippine National Police (PNP), said Adell Roll Milan was released around 11 a.m.
“Milan was released at 11 a.m. but again we need to emphasize that this case it not yet closed,” Durana said in an interview with reporters.
Milan's counsel, lawyer Lorenzo Gadon, said in a news forum in Quezon City the prosecutor's office filed a motion to withdraw because of mistaken identity.
Durana refused to comment but said there are “encouraging developments” related to Nilo's death.
“We cannot divulge the details of these developments because it may compromise the ongoing investigation,” he said.
Chief Superintendent Amador Corpus, Central Luzon police director, said it is up to Milan whether he wants to press charges against the police.
“It's okay with us. It's his right,” he said in a phone interview with reporters.
Milan was arrested in Barangay Malapit in San Isidro four days after Nilo was shot on June 10.
Police are looking for five other suspects. DMS
