Police rescue Indian kidnap victim in Pasay

August 18, 2017

The Philippine National Police rescued an Indian national on August 16 captured by a kidnap for ransom group in Pasay City, Senior Superintendent Glenn Dumlao, acting director of the Anti-Kidnapping Group, said.

Anial Kumar Sohal, an Indian national and a lending collector was rescued inside a safehouse along Ninoy Aquino International Airport 1 in Pasay City after a brief firefight against the kidnappers, Dumlao said.

Indejirit Singh also known as Goldy, leader of the group, Rashper Singh and Ferdinand Reyes were killed in the encounter.

The kidnap for ransom group initially demanded 20 million pesos from the family of Sohal and asked for one million initial ransom money, Dumlao said.

The brother of Sohal said the suspects ordered him to bring P935,000 he has in hand in exchange of his brother.

He said he brought two bags of money, one with the P935,000 ransom money and the other with his collection to fill in the one million demand of the suspects.

He said he handed the bag containing his collection in panic and the suspects hurried off after taking the bag.

Dumlao said there was a misunderstanding after the Scene of the Crime Operatives recovered  coins and a little amount of money from the suspects after they reported that the ransom money is P935 million.

He said PNP Director General Ronald Dela Rosa is angered by the incident and called him to resolve the issue.

“In the nego phone, we monitored that they settled in P935 million so that is our report to the Chief PNP (Director General Ronald Dela Rosa) because we don’t control them”, he said.

The police are conducting investigation and follow-up operation against the other members of the group, Dumlao said. Alanna Ambi/DMS
