Police says robbery is main motive of criminals on motorcycles

The Philippine National Police said robbery is the primary motive of motorcycle riding suspects with 115 incidents in the past 26 days of intensified operations against criminals on two wheels where over 100 were killed.

Based on the latest data from the Directorate for Investigation and Detective Management (DIDM) on Tuesday, another 93 shooting and three stabbing incidents were recorded as murder cases.

Police Director Augusto Marquez Jr, DIDM head, said 64 motorcycle-riding suspects were arrested by the authorities while 380 suspects are being pursued by police tracker teams.

Generated from the Crime Information Reporting and Analysis System, the data also revealed of the total number of incidents, 15 incidents are cleared by the authority, 45 incidents are considered as solved, and 267 incidents are underway for further investigations.

DIDM disclosed that from October 10 to November 5, 363 victims were recorded wherein 125 were killed by suspects while 183 others are unharmed.

It said that of the total number of incidents, only 10 are drug-related.

The report divulged the prevalence of incidents in Metro Manila (49 cases), Calabarzon (37 cases); and in Regions 3 and 12 with 34 and 32 cases, respectively.

"These are incidents wherein motorcycles or scooters are used in the commission of a crime or to ensure a quick escape of the scene of the crime after its commission, as victims died, injured, or unharmed as a result thereof,” Marquez said. DMS
