Population Commission sees population at 113 million by 2022 if law not fully implemented
March 6, 2017
If the full implementation of the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health (RPRH) Act of 2012 continues to face obstacles the Commission on Population sees population rising to more than 113 million by 2022.
“These will be the first of the many adverse effects of derailing the full implementation of the RPRH law with a temporary restraining order (TRO) by the Supreme Court (SC) still hanging in the air,” said the commission.
This, it noted, is separate from an expected increase in the number of mothers dying during childbirth during these years.
“We are concerned that mothers, wives, young women and their children may get sick, worsen their impoverished plight, or die because free family planning services are not readily available to them,” said the commission.
Current data indicate that the maternal mortality rate is at 231 per 100,000 individuals.
In June 2015, the Supreme Court issued twin temporary restraining orders, particularly against the distribution of progesterone subdermal implant as well as prohibiting the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) from the re-registration of current contraceptive methods. DMS
