July 2, 2020
Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana said the investigation on the death of four Army intelligence officers allegedly at the hands of policemen in Sulu is "about to be finished."
"The president has ordered the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to conduct an investigation and I think the investigation is about to be finished," Lorenzana said in an online forum on Thursday.
Lorenzana said Interior and Local Government (DILG) Secretary Eduardo Año has a copy of the initial result of the investigation.
"According to Sec. Año yesterday I think he already has the initial result of the investigation but... I told the troops, the commanders yesterday, to, let us not inflame the emotions of the soldiers. We do not want this to escalate," he said.
"Anyway something is being done. We will get to the bottom of this. There are lots of witnesses there when it happened, civilians and soldiers. There are CCTVs, two cameras that recorded the incident. I think this is very simple, I think its simple, just looking at the evidences and everything," he added.
Lorenzana said President Rodrigo Duterte also want a quick investigation.
"I believe that the NBI will come out with a conclusion very soon because the president also wants the investigation to be fast," he said. Robina Asido/DMS
