PSE index ends lower despite rally

The Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) index rallied towards the end of trading but still ended lower for the second day on Thursday.
The peso closed at P50.85 against the US dollar from P50.88 on Thursday. Volume at the foreign exchange portal of the Bankers Association of the Philippines reached $424.9 million from $346 million on the previous day.
The PSE index finished at 5,342.31, down 66.21 points after being down 144.34 points one and half hours before trading concluded.In the broader market, there were 126 losers, 54 gainers and 35 unchanged.
Volume reached 384.02 million shares worth P4.4 billion from Wednesday's 498.18 million shares valued at P5.58 billion.Most active shares were led by Ayala Corp., down P13 to P450; Ayala Land, up P1.15 to P52.30; BDO, down P5.20 to P100 and SM Prime, up P1.30 to P29.60. DMS
