PSG officer found dead inside his quarters at Malacanang Park

September 26, 2017

An officer of the Presidential Security Group was found dead on Tuesday morning inside his quarters at Malacanang Park, where President Rodrigo Duterte's official residence is located. In an interview with reporters, Brig. Gen. Lope Dagoy, PSG chief, said the body of Major Harim Gonzaga, 37, was found by his wife, also a PSG member, inside their quarters, which serves as their family home at around 8:50am. Gonzaga has gunshot wound on his chest, he said. Dagoy said his office did not want to speculate as to what had happened to Gonzaga, but he ruled out any foul play. He also said that there was no sign of struggle inside his family's quarters. "We cannot speculate. It's hard to say it was suicide," Dagoy said, adding they would wait for the result of the investigation. But according to Gonzaga's wife, he said the late officer was complaining about his workload. Gonzaga was the head of the PSG operation, particularly in the deployment of people. When the incident happened, Dagoy said he "presumed" the president was at Bahay Pagbabago, his official residence. "Yes, I presumed the president was there," Dagoy said. He assumed Duterte knew what happened as he informed Special Assistant to the President Christopher "Bong" Go about the incident. Gonzaga left a wife and two young children. Celerina Monte/DMS
