April 22, 2020
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) on Tuesday arrested two persons for violating the liquor ban.
Police Brigadier General Ronnie Montejo, QCPD director, said suspects Joseph Christian Elanga, 29, and Patrick Velasco, 21, were arrested at a checkpoint at NLEX northbound, Barangay Balong Bato around 3:40 pm.
Police said the suspects, who were on their vehicle, were flagged down and caught transporting assorted wines and liquor. They also failed to show a quarantine pass, resulting in heir arrest.
Montejo said liquor ban still exists in Quezon City.
“We remind the public that selling, buying and drinking liquor in public places is not allowed. Let’s stay at home and always follow the guidelines of the national and local government so that we can stop the spread of COVID-19,” he said.
Confiscated from the suspects were 20 boxes of 338 bottles of Sun Valley Wine and Genesis, three boxes of 36 bottles of Jules Taylor wine, two boxes of 432 bottles of Square Vodka, and two bags of eight bottles of assorted wines.
The suspects will be charged with violating the liquor ban in relation to Proclamation No. 922 of Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases and Health Events of Public Health Concern Act and Bayanihan to Heal As One Act. Ella Dionisio/DMS
