Robredo says rule of law must be upheld in campaign vs drugs
August 17, 2017
Vice President Leni Robredo reiterated that due process and rule of law must be upheld in conducting the government's campaign against illegal drugs, a statement said Thursday.
Robredo mentioned this in response to reports that 32 suspects were killed in 66 anti-drug operations conducted between midnight of Wednesday, August 15, and Thursday, August 16 in Bulacan. This is far the highest death toll in a single day since June of last year.
While acknowledging the need to take action against illegal drugs, Robredo said due process must be observed. She has also pushed for adopting other approaches, such as community-based rehabilitation, which applies to most drug surrenderees. DMS
