Vice President Leni Robredo on Wednesday evening visited the wake of three of the four Army intelligence officers who died in a shooting incident in Jolo last June 29.
Robredo said Corporal Abdal Asula was immediately buried following Islam tradition.
“All of them are young men who died in the service of the country. It was heartbreaking to hear their stories from their respective families. They had such promising futures ahead of them,” Robredo said in her Facebook post.
“My heart goes out to their loved ones and the entire Philippine Army who are all grieving for their loss,” she added.
Robredo said she is grateful to Army chief Lt. Gen. Gilbert Gapay for his leadership “and for exerting all efforts to ensure that justice will be served,” she said.
The four Army intelligence officers were allegedly shot by nine policemen from the Jolo Municipal Police Station.
The nine policemen have been relieved from their posts and placed in restrictive custody under the Sulu provincial director.
Following instruction from President Rodrigo Duterte, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) was tasked to conduct a probe. Ella Dionisio/DMS
