Roque to sue those proliferating fake news misquoting him
August 11, 2020
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque vowed on Tuesday to file charges against those proliferating fake news by misquoting him.
In a virtual press briefing, Roque cited a report that came out in a newspaper where his statement about coronavirus disease was altered.
Quoting the fake news, he said, "COVID lang iyan, kaunti lang ang namamatay, kahit umabot pa ng sampung milyon (It's just COVID, only few have died, even if it reaches to 10 million).”
Roque said he never said such quotation and it was good that the newspaper cited that it was fake news.
"Let us be cautious with the fake news. Get your information from the web page of the Presidential Spokesperson or in Harry Roque page or in the PCOO (Presidential Communications Operations Office) web pages," he said.
He warned that those spreading the fake news will face charges.
"I will have you investigated and I will file a case, wait for it. But in this case of pandemic, those who have nothing to do, don't spread fake news," he stressed.
He also called as fake news the report that came out on Monday about an airplane carrying overseas Filipino workers and locally stranded individuals which arrived in Bacolod City.
The report said that thousands of them were positive for COVID-19, he said.
"There were no thousands of positive (COVID-19 cases) who arrived in Bacolod, it never happened," Roque added. Celerina Monte/DMS
