Sagada spelunking sites shut down
April 5, 2017
Baguio City—Popular spelunking sites Sumaguing and Lumiang Caves has been shut down by authorities after a 15-year old boy slipped and died Monday Sagada Tourism Officer Robert Pangod said there is no word when these sites will open. Pangod said the boy used another way to enter the cave, not the main access point at the Sumaguing side. The tourism office in Sagada claims villagers enter the caves without guides through points not used by tourists. Pangod said the cave was declared closed by the municipal government after the accident as a precautionary measure. Sagada experienced a tourism boom in 2015 after the film “That Thing Called Tadhana” was shot at a ridge in Mt. Kiltepan. DMS
